THEIA

Movies and series

Theia remembers where you stopped and plays the next episode for you.

Where they come from

Movies and series come from Xtream logins. A playlist link (M3U) puts everything in Live TV as channels, including any movies your provider added to it. If your provider gave you both, add the Xtream login. See Getting started.

New titles show up after the source’s next refresh. That’s every 12 hours unless you changed it, and Refresh channels on the source’s page does it straight away.

Browsing

Movies and Series are in the side menu. Categories are on the left, with All movies or All series at the top. Sort by Recently added, Title, Year or Rating.

Posters come from your provider. A title without one shows its initials and name on a colored tile. Titles are shown without the language and quality tags providers add. The provider’s own name is under Raw name on the title’s page.

To find a title by name, use search.

A movie’s page

Click Play. If you’ve started it, Resume picks up where you stopped, with the time left beside it, and Play from the start starts over.

When your provider lists a movie or series in more than one version, the grid shows it once with a small label such as 3 versions, and its page lists them all so you can pick the quality or language you want. It opens the version you played last. Otherwise a 4K screen that can play it gets the 4K version first.

A movie’s place carries over from one version to another. A series keeps each version’s place separately.

Series

Pick a season above the episodes. The main button plays the next episode, for example Resume S2 E3 or Play S2 E3. Click any episode to play that one. Start the season plays the first episode of the season you’re looking at.

An episode counts as watched once you’ve seen 92% of it.

The next episode

Near the end of an episode, a card at the bottom right counts down from 10 to the next one, with Play now and Cancel. It carries on into the next season.

Both parts can be turned off in Settings > Playback, under Episodes:

  • Auto-play next episode. Off, the card says Up next and waits for you.
  • Next episode button. Off, the next episode just starts at the end.

In the player

Key What it does
Space or K Pause and play
Left or J Back 10 seconds
Right or L Forward 10 seconds
Up and Down Volume on a computer
M Mute
C Subtitles on and off
F Full screen on a computer
Esc Out of full screen, then back to where you started it

Audio track and Subtitles are buttons in the controls. The subtitles panel also takes a subtitle file: paste its path and click Load. Right-click the video for Aspect and zoom.

Keyboard keys can be changed in Settings > Keyboard & input.

The controls hide 2.5 seconds after the mouse stops. Hide the controls after in Settings > Playback changes that, up to 15 seconds, or Never, which keeps them up until you click the video. In a window, they also hide when the window loses focus, and come back when you point at the picture again.

On a TV remote, OK shows the controls and leaves the picture playing, with Pause lit, so a second OK pauses. On a movie or series, Left and Right go back or forward 10 seconds, and so do Rewind and Fast forward. On a live channel, Left and Right on the buttons change channel, and Up reaches the timeline when it can be rewound (see Live rewind). Up or Down shows the controls. On a TV, a movie, an episode or a recording shows its time to the second, such as 0:37 / 1:12. Hold OK, or press the Menu key, for the player’s menu. Back hides the controls, then leaves the player.

Sound and subtitles

These are in Settings > Playback, and they apply to channels too.

  • Preferred audio language plays that language when a stream has it. A track you pick on a channel is remembered for that channel.
  • Preferred subtitle language is the language picked when subtitles come on.
  • Turn subtitles on automatically shows subtitles whenever a stream has them. It starts off, and subtitles then stay off until you pick a track.
  • Subtitle size, Subtitle color, Subtitle background and Subtitle position change how plain subtitles look. Styled subtitles keep their own look.

For quiet streams or loud ads, see Playback problems.

Picking up where you stopped

Theia saves your place as you watch. Anything you’ve started shows in Continue watching on Home, along with channels you watched lately, and at the top of All movies and All series.

  • To take one off, right-click it, hold OK on a TV, or open its page, and choose Remove from Continue watching.
  • To clear it all, go to Settings > Watch history. Clear everything clears it all, or clear just channels, movies or episodes. Favorites stay.

Favorites

Point at a poster and click its star, press Ctrl D, or click Add to favorites on the title’s page. On a TV, hold OK on a poster and choose Add to favorites. Favorites in the side menu lists your channels, movies and series together.

On Windows and Mac, favorite channels show as tiles with their art, what’s on now with its progress, and what’s next. Movies and series sit below as rows of posters, and a section with nothing in it takes little room. Click a tile or poster to watch or open it, or click its star to take it off. Undo in the notice that appears puts back what you just removed. Ctrl D takes off the item you’re on, and I opens its page.
