Antenna tuners
An HDHomeRun tuner on your home network brings your local antenna channels into Theia, next to your other sources.
Adding a tuner
- In the Source step of first-run setup, click Add an antenna tuner. After setup, click Find tuners in Settings > Sources.
- Theia looks for tuners on your home network and lists each one it finds. Click Add next to yours.
- Not listed? Check that the tuner is on and on the same network, then click Look again. Or type its address, such as 192.168.1.50, and click Add.
- Theia checks the tuner and shows what it found, as it does for any source. Click Add source.
Only your home network is searched. A server at home that works like an HDHomeRun can be added by its address the same way. In Settings > Sources, a tuner’s card says Antenna tuner. A tuner counts as one of the free version’s 2 sources.
How many channels at once
Each tuner in the box plays one channel at a time. Theia reads how many the box has and shows it on the source’s card, such as 2 tuners. Previews, multiview tiles and recordings each use one, and so does any other screen in the house watching the same box.
When they’re all busy, Theia says All tuners in use. Close something that’s playing, or stop watching on another screen.
The HDHomeRun guide
HDHomeRun has a free guide for its tuners, three days ahead. It’s off until you turn it on.
- In the Guide step of setup, choose Use the HDHomeRun guide.
- After setup, click Set up the guide on the tuner’s card in Settings > Sources, then choose the same.
It comes from the maker of HDHomeRun, which sees your IP address and your tuner’s ID. More in the privacy policy. If it doesn’t load, check that the tuner is on. A server that works like a tuner uses its own guide link instead.
Channel numbers
Antenna channels keep their numbers, such as 4.1, everywhere Theia shows a number. To jump to 4.1, type 4, then a dot or dash, then 1. More keys are in The guide and live TV.
When a channel won’t play
The player says why the tuner turned it away.
| What it says | Try |
|---|---|
| All tuners are in use | Stop watching on another screen, then try again. |
| No signal on this channel right now | The station may be off the air, or reception is weak. |
| This channel is copy protected | It can’t play in Theia. |
| The tuner doesn’t have this channel anymore | Click Refresh playlist to get its channels again. |
| The tuner is scanning for channels | Try again when the scan is done. |
| Can’t reach the tuner | Check that it’s on and on the same network. |
| The tuner couldn’t tune this channel | Try again in a moment. |
With a VPN
Theia reaches the tuner directly, even while VPN routing or Leak protection is on. This works for a tuner found by the search or added by its number address, such as 192.168.1.50. One added by a name goes through the VPN like everything else. On a TV, a VPN app running for the whole TV decides this itself.
