Theia on a Mac
Open the download, drag Theia to Applications, and you're set.
Install
- Open the Theia disk image (a .dmg file) from your Downloads folder.
- Drag Theia onto Applications.
- Open Theia from Applications or Launchpad. You can eject the disk image afterward.
Apple has signed and notarized Theia, so macOS opens it without a warning. It needs macOS 12 Monterey or later on a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer). Add your playlist or Xtream login the way Getting started shows.
Keep Theia in Applications. It can’t update itself from the disk image or from a folder it can’t write to, and it says so if you try.
Updates
Theia checks for a new version when it opens and again every 12 hours. When there is one, a note offers Update, and Restart to update installs it. Theia closes, swaps itself and opens again. To check now, go to Settings > About.
After a bigger update, a What’s new card shows the highlights once. See Updates for how to see it again or turn it off.
If macOS asks about the Keychain
The first time a signed version of Theia replaces an older copy, macOS may ask once for each saved login. Click Always Allow. Your source passwords stay in the Keychain, locked to your Mac account, and updates don’t ask again.
Shortcuts
The guides write Ctrl for the main shortcut key. On a Mac that key is Command, so Ctrl K is Command K, and the list that F1 opens shows the keys as your Mac does. You can change any of them in Settings > Keyboard & input.
VPN
The built-in VPN tunnel in Settings > Network & VPN works the same as on Windows. The VPN setup steps apply, and the helper that runs the tunnel is part of the app.
Remove Theia
Quit Theia, then drag it from Applications to the Trash. That leaves your files, so a later install picks up where you left off.
Your sources, settings, favorites and logs are in ~/Library/Application Support/Theia. In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder and paste that path. Posters and other downloads that come back on their own are in ~/Library/Caches/Theia, and recordings go in Movies/Theia in your home folder unless you chose another. Delete those folders too to remove everything.
