Install it with Downloader

  1. Install Downloader from your TV’s app store. It’s free.
  2. Let Downloader install apps. The wording differs by device.
    • Fire TV: Settings > My Fire TV > Developer options > Install unknown apps, then turn on Downloader. No Developer options? Open Settings > My Fire TV > About and press Select on your device’s name seven times.
    • Google TV and onn: Settings > Apps > Security & restrictions > Unknown sources, then turn on Downloader.
  3. Open Downloader and type the code or link above, then choose Go. When the download finishes, choose Install, then Open. If Play Protect asks about the app, choose to install it anyway.
  4. Optional: delete the downloaded file in Downloader to free up space. Theia stays installed.

Adding your provider

The first time Theia opens on your TV, choose how:

  • Use my phone: scan the code on screen and type your playlist link or login on your phone. How it works
  • Sign in: bring your license and sources from your free Theia account. Approve the TV on your phone, then compare the key code it shows with the one on the device that sent your sources. Your account
  • Type it here: type it with the remote.

What’s new on the TV

Version 0.8.2 is the TV’s first 0.8. Search, Favorites and Recordings are new pages, and multiview and the player are rebuilt for the remote: the sound follows the tile you’re on, and Add a tile has Channels, Sports and Search tabs. Each game in Sports has a + Multiview button. Signing in works from your phone, with a Sync password box if your account has one. Screen edges in Settings > Appearance keeps a margin around the picture or uses the whole screen.

Updates

From version 0.6.2, updates come to the TV itself. When a new version is ready, Theia says Version X is out within a few seconds of opening, and again each time you come back to it. Press Install and your TV does the rest, with your sources and settings kept. Later waits until the next time you come back. The first time, your TV asks to let Theia install apps, and Theia opens that setting for you: turn on the switch next to Theia, then press Back, and the install carries on.

After a bigger update, a What’s new card shows the highlights once. Choose Got it to close it. You can see it again in Settings > About.

On 0.6.1 or earlier? Install this version once with Downloader, over the one you have. After that, updates come to your TV. A Google Play version is coming.

What you need

  • Android TV 7 or later, including Google TV and Fire TV (Fire OS 6 or later)
  • At least 1 GB of memory

Fire TV devices that run Vega OS can’t install Android apps.
